Native plant of the week: Blue-eyed grass

Blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium angustifolium) is a sweet little early bloomer. Early flowers means early nectar sources for pollinators that are just emerging from their winter quarters. These aren’t really grasses but members of the lily family, they generally stay under 1’ tall and make a lovely border around paths and walkways in the garden. Blue-eyed grass wants to live in a spot with full to part sun and consistent moisture but don’t surround it with mulch! That will cause rot. This plant also favors poorer soils so hold the soil amendments!
